Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) has become one of the most influential approaches in English Language Teaching (ELT) over the past five decades. Unlike traditional grammar-based teaching methods, CLT emphasizes meaningful communication, learner interaction, real-life language use, and the development of communicative competence. As English continues to function as a global language for education, business, technology, and international communication, educators increasingly recognize the need for teaching methods that prepare learners to use English effectively in authentic situations rather than merely mastering grammatical rules. This research paper examines the principles, advantages, challenges, and future prospects of Communicative Language Teaching in contemporary English language education. The study employs a qualitative research methodology based on a comprehensive review of scholarly books, peer-reviewed journal articles, policy documents, and educational reports. The research explores how CLT enhances learners' speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills while promoting critical thinking, learner autonomy, collaboration, and confidence. The study also identifies significant challenges associated with CLT implementation, including large class sizes, insufficient teacher training, examination-oriented education systems, limited classroom resources, cultural barriers, and varying levels of learner proficiency. Furthermore, the paper discusses how technological innovations, digital learning platforms, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) can strengthen communicative language instruction by providing interactive and personalized learning experiences. The findings suggest that although Communicative Language Teaching presents implementation challenges, it remains one of the most effective pedagogical approaches for developing communicative competence in English language learners. Successful implementation requires institutional support, continuous teacher professional development, curriculum reform, and balanced integration of technology. The paper concludes that CLT continues to play a vital role in preparing learners for effective communication in an increasingly interconnected world.
