Tippu Sultan (1751–1799), popularly known as the "Tiger of Mysore," was one of the most dynamic rulers of eighteenth-century India. His military administration, strategic innovations, and resistance against British colonial expansion significantly influenced the political and military history of South India. Tippu Sultan introduced several reforms in army organization, weaponry, fortification systems, and military training. He is particularly remembered for the development and effective use of iron-cased rockets, which later influenced modern rocket technology in Europe. This paper examines the structure of Tippu Sultan's military system, its innovations, strengths, limitations, and historical significance. The study highlights how his military policies contributed to the defense of Mysore and challenged the growing power of the British East India Company.
