The Wadiyar Dynasty, also known as the Odeyars or Vadeyars, was one of the most influential royal houses in South India. Ruling the Kingdom of Mysore from the late fourteenth century until Indian independence in 1947, the Wadiyars played a significant role in shaping the political, economic, social, and cultural landscape of Karnataka. Despite interruptions during the rule of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan, the dynasty re-emerged under British paramountcy and transformed Mysore into one of the most progressive princely states in India. This paper examines the origins, political development, administration, economic reforms, educational initiatives, and cultural achievements of the Wadiyar rulers.
