Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as one of the most transformative technologies of the twenty-first century, significantly influencing educational practices across the globe. English Language Teaching (ELT), in particular, has experienced a remarkable transformation through AI-powered tools that provide personalized learning experiences, automated assessment, intelligent tutoring systems, speech recognition, and adaptive feedback. The increasing demand for English as a global language has encouraged educators to adopt innovative technologies that improve learners' linguistic competence while reducing instructional challenges. This paper explores the role of Artificial Intelligence in English Language Teaching by examining its applications, benefits, challenges, ethical concerns, and future prospects. The study adopts a qualitative research methodology based on an extensive review of scholarly articles, books, reports, and recent developments in AI-assisted language learning. The research highlights that AI enhances student engagement, improves pronunciation through speech analysis, supports writing development using intelligent grammar correction, facilitates vocabulary acquisition through adaptive learning platforms, and enables teachers to monitor learner progress more effectively. Despite these advantages, AI integration presents significant concerns related to data privacy, algorithmic bias, digital inequality, excessive dependence on technology, and reduced human interaction in classrooms. The findings suggest that AI should complement rather than replace English language teachers. Human instructors remain essential for developing learners' critical thinking, intercultural competence, creativity, and emotional intelligence. The paper concludes that successful implementation of AI in ELT requires appropriate teacher training, ethical guidelines, institutional support, and balanced pedagogical practices. Artificial Intelligence represents an opportunity to redefine English language education while maintaining the indispensable role of teachers in fostering meaningful learning experiences.
